Residents allege late response by F&E dept, demand compensation for family Sheikh Family

Srinagar, Apr 05 (KNO): A 40-year-old woman and her son were charred to death in a deadly blaze at Haftchinar area of Srinagar on Monday.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that at least six residential houses were gutted during intervening night of Sunday-Monday in Haftchinar area of Srinagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Shergari Police Station.
“Fire broke out in a residential house of one Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Dogerpati Haftchinar, which engulfed into another residential houses during intervening night of Sunday-Monday.”
In the incident, Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh’s wife identified as Ajmeera (40), her son Mohammad Abbass Sheikh (6), died on the spot.
The duo were taken to the Srinagar’s SMHS hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Meanwhile residents of Haftchinar locality in Solina area of the city demanded adequate compensation for the family of deceased mother-son duo who were charred to death and to those who lost their shelter in devastating blaze last night.
Residents appealed to the district administration to announce compensation for the fire victims who they said lives under open sky after their houses destroyed in massive blaze.
Talking to KNO, residents said the late response of fire and emergency department led to the loss of two precious lives besides property worth lakhs of rupees destroyed in blaze.
They said six structures were razed to ashes after fire broke out at the house of one Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh of Dogerpati, Haftchinar area in Solina last night in which his son and wife lost their lives.
“They (fire victims) lost everything to devastating blaze. The fire apparently erupted due to the short circuit at 11pm last night. Now we appeal to the administration to announce compensation for them so that they are able to rebuild their houses,” Abdul Rashid, a local resident said.
The residents also sought compensation for the family of a mother son duo who lost their lives in the incident. Pertinent to mention that a forty years old woman and her minor son were charred to death after the house they were living in caught fire.
National Conference, provincial youth president who also represents Solina Municipal ward as corporator, Salman Ali Sagar who visited the victim families this afternoon, expressed dissatisfaction over the late response of Fire and Emergency department in dousing off the flames.
Salman said tragedy would have been averted to some extent, had fire tenders reached to the spot well on time.
“I personally and on behalf of my party express sympathies with family of deceased mother son duo, besides my heart goes out for those who lost their houses in inferno,” Salman told the media adding the administration must announce adequate compensation for the victim families—(KNO)
