German Robot Demonstrates Impressive Home Skills
German robotics company Neura has showcased the capabilities of its 4NE-1 humanoid with a video highlighting its proficiency in performing daily household chores. The nearly 2-meter tall robot is seen seamlessly ironing clothes, chopping vegetables, lifting boxes and categorizing objects – tasks that are usually done by humans on a daily basis.
The 4NE-1 was designed by Neura to serve as an intelligent home assistant. Powered by the company’s own AI platform, it has capabilities like computer vision, force sensing and seamless interaction capabilities. Equipped with these cognitive technologies, the robot managed the household tasks presented to it with apparent ease in the demonstration video.
While some editing was likely involved in merging the different scenes, the 4NE-1 displayed impressive dexterity and care in its movements. From carefully picking up garments and gliding the iron smoothly, to nimbly dicing vegetables and sorting items by type – the humanoid robot handled each chore efficiently. This shows the progress being made in building robots that can support humans in their daily lives.
Neura claims the 4NE-1 is already being used for industrial applications with its AI and 3D vision sensors helping in tasks like object detection. At 180cm tall and 80kg in weight, the robot aims to be useful across different settings. Through collaborations with companies like Nvidia, Neura is working on developing truly cognitive robots that can multi-task in homes and other environments. If the 4NE-1’s skills portrayed are any indication, the future of assistive robotics seems promising.
