Flash Flood Tragedy: Two Teachers Washed Away Near Batote in Ramban

RAMBAN, July 30: In a heart-wrenching incident, two school teachers lost their lives after their motorcycle was swept away by a sudden flash flood near Jalebi Morh Nallah in the Batote area of Ramban district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Jagdev Singh Thakur and Sanjay Sharma, both residents of Ghordi Block in Udhampur district. The duo was en route to their workplace when torrential rains triggered a surge in the stream’s water level, catching them completely off guard.

The gushing waters overwhelmed their bike as they attempted to cross the swollen stream, leading to their tragic end.

According to SHO Batote, Vijay Kotwal, both bodies were later recovered and shifted to District Hospital Ramban for post-mortem.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the teaching community and local residents, raising concerns over safety measures during monsoon travel in hilly regions.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
