Leading financial advisor N.K. Singh has emphasized the need for India to maintain its recent economic momentum over the next two decades in order to achieve developed nation status by 2047. In a speech accepting an honorary award from the prestigious London School of Economics, Singh highlighted India's growth trajectory and commitment to development.
As the nation enters the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Singh stated that both the government and people of India are dedicated to making the country developed by 2047. However, he stressed this lofty goal will only be possible if the rapid growth seen recently can be sustained over the next 20 years. Singh pointed out that India's rising prosperity demonstrates that democracy and advancement go hand in hand.
With a career spent shaping India's financial reforms since the early 1990s, Singh's policy expertise makes him well qualified to advise on economic issues. In his speech, he spoke of India's long history as a source of innovative ideas and belief that the potential exists to usher in an “Indian Era” through constant progress. Singh currently heads the New Delhi-based Institute of Economic Growth and also co-leads reforms at multilateral development banks for the G20.
In response to being awarded the honorary fellowship, Singh called it an honor considering LSE's prestigious alumni. He praised the university's role in academia since 1895 and close ties to India's intellectual development. Previous Indians receiving the recognition include national leaders like BR Ambedkar as well as respected figures in business and academics.
