Farmer unions, agitation against the recent farm laws, have postponed the planned February 1 march to parliament after the violence during the Republic Day tractor rally on Tuesday.
Balbir S Rajewal, the farmer lead
er from Bhartiya Kisan Union (R), has informed media that the march has been postponed for now. The next step will be decided in the next meeting, he said.
Instead, the farmers are now planning to organise nationwide on Martyr’s Day on January 30. “On Martyrs’ Day, we’ll hold public rallies across India on behalf of the farmers’ agitation. We will also keep a one-day fast,” Balbir S Rajewal said.
Speaking to media, Balbir S Rajewal said that the tractor rally fell prey to the government conspiracy. “Despite attempts to break it, 99.9 per cent farmers were peaceful. Some incidents took place. The government put Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee members in front of blockade put for us, no blockade for them,” he claimed.
The farmer’s tractor rally took a violent turn on Tuesday when several farmers broke barricades and marched on unapproved routes towards the central parts of the national capital. After clashing with the Delhi Police at ITO, hundreds of farmers moved towards the Red Fort where they hoisted a flag at the Red fort. The reports of pulling down of tricolour are false; however, there has been some unconfirmed reportage about it in the media.
The incident has been condemned by all, including farmers’ union that has accused actor Deep Sindhu and gangster Lakha Sidhana of leading a band of miscreants who entered the Red Fort and hoisted the flag.
