    Facing fiscal deficit, JK Govt permits only 50% utilization of funds

    No travel abroad; All Deptts directed to pay pending power, water bills

    Jammu Tawi, Apr 02: To overcome the fiscal deficit, the Government of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has decided to put in place several restrictions to keep a check on the wasteful expenditure and in this regard the Finance Department has allowed only 50% utilization of the funds to different departments allocated in the budget.

    Apart from this, restrictions have also been ordered for the officers from travelling abroad and they will now have to take permission from the Finance Department to travel abroad.

    Only those officers, which the government thinks their visit to abroad is must, will now be allowed to travel abroad which will save lot of government money.

    As per the Government order No 149F/2026 different departments of the UT of J&K will be allocated 50% funds and this amount will have to be utilized by way of 1/12 every month.

    The government has also directed all the departments to cut down unnecessary expenditure and all the government offices, quarters and other establishments have also been directed to pay their pending power and water bills on time.

    The J&K Government has also directed all the departments to keep a check on LTC, Telephone, advertisements and other expenditure to overcome fiscal deficit.

    The different departments have also been directed to undertake administrative reforms and also collect revenue on a fast track manner pending since the last three years.

    The government, in its order, has also direct that the seminars and other programmes will now be held in the premises of different government owned establishments, buildings and offices.

    The J&K Government also directed all the departments to complete the e-tendering process by 30th of this month and the diversion of funds of any kind have also been stopped by the government and these will be diverted only after the permission of Finance Department.

    The departments have also been directed to shift to digital mode.
