    Encouraging participation in Reasi, Udhampur Climbing meet

    , Apr 30:   Prince Thakur of Academy High School, Udhampur bagged gold in Junior Boys category in the district Udhampur Sport Climbing Championship which held under the banner of Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here today.

    The silver and bronze medals claimed by Imran Aslam of Aryan Oriental Convent Higher Secondary School and Manish Singh Katoch of National Academy High School, Udhampur respectively.

    The District Reasi Sport Climbing competition also held simultaneously at the same venue in involving around 250 young boys and girls from the twin districts.

    In the Junior Boys category of Reasi District there was a good competition among Balwan Singh, Shahid Iqbal and Aryan Sharma of Amba Kids Home, Panthal, Katra in which Balwant Singh emerged victorious. Shahid Iqbal and Aryan Sharma remained second and third respectively.

    However, competitions in the Men and Women categories of both the districts could not be held for lack of adequate participation.

    Earlier, the championship declared open by Neelam Khajuria, JKAS, Additional Secretary, Youth Services and Department J&K in the presence of Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary; Ram Khajuria, senior vice president and Sumit Khajuria, vice president of MAJK. Administrator of National Academy High School, Udhampur Anukampa Sharma; climbers, Shivani Charak, Shilpa Charak and Arun Deep Singh were also among prominent persons present on the occasion.

    Speaking to the gathering, the chief guest lauded the role of MAJK in promoting sport climbing in the Union Territory of J&K and producing national and international climbers like Shivani Charak. She assured all possible help and cooperation for further promotion of the game in J&K and hoped that a climber from J&K would find a place in the national team for the Paris Olympics.

    Both the championships are sponsored by J&K Sports Council.

    Reasi District: Mini Boys: Hari Vansh, Ist; Anubhar, 2nd and Asif, 3rd. Mini Girls: Niharika, Ist; Janvi, 2nd and Sojal Bhagat, 3rd. Sub Junior Girls: Divyanshi, Ist; Tanvi, 2nd and Avantika, 3rd.

     

    Udhampur District: Mini Girls: Aushi Thakur, Ist; Prachi Sharma, 2nd and Ishika Thakur, 3rd.

    Mini Boys: Anurag Sharma, Ist; Samaksh Sharma, 2nd and Ayush Raina, 3rd.

    Sub Junio Girls: Rupali Thakur, Ist; Ira Singh, 2nd and Dhriti Sharma, 3rd.

    Meanwhile, final rounds in other categories of both districts of Udhampur and Reasi were in progress when the last reports filed.
