NEW DELHI, June 13: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three consecutive flight tests, demonstrating India’s multi-layered defence capability against long-range ballistic missiles and anti-ship threats at medium range.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on the achievement, saying the successful tests have placed India among a select group of nations possessing Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) capabilities capable of engaging threats ranging from ballistic missiles to intercontinental ballistic missiles.
In a social media post, Singh said the tests showcased multiple critical technologies that strengthen the country’s defence preparedness against diverse enemy threats.
He stated that the multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence system was successfully demonstrated, with the interceptors effectively engaging their designated targets.
The Defence Minister said the systems have been designed and developed using advanced technologies to counter emerging missile threats.
He also highlighted the successful maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range, which demonstrated India’s anti-ship defence capability at medium range.
The successful trials mark a significant boost to India’s indigenous missile defence architecture and strategic deterrence capabilities. (Agencies)
