Delay hits construction of vital bridge in Achabal

    Date:

Locals angry, R&B dept says work to complete this fiscal year

Anantnag, Aug 06 : For the last four years, a vital bridge in the Tailwani area in Anantnag's Achabal has been awaiting completion.

Residents of the area told  that the Roads and Building Department started the construction project four year ago and so far only three pillars were constructed.

Kifayat Ahmad, a local resident, said that the bridge is very vital as it will connect at least two dozen villages with the rest of the district.

About 30 percent work has been completed all these years and for the last two years work has stopped, he said.

Another local Basit Ahmad said that makeshift bridges were made several times but they get washed away with the surge in water level.

Locals said people of around two dozen villages are suffering as they are forced to take up long routes in absence of a bridge.

They said that school going children, patients and elderly persons are the main victims who have been suffering for years but no attention is being given by the government.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and complete project so that people of around two dozen villages won't suffer anymore.

The concerned Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Ishfaq Ahmad said that work has been allotted to the contractor and fabrication of the superstructure is going on.

He added that the bridge will be completed within the current financial year only
