A critical portion of a connecting culvert on the Kothian- Sudheen road in PMGSY Sub-Division Pouni, has been severely damaged, making it highly prone to accidents.

According to reports, the road, constructed just 1.5 to 2 years ago, spans approximately 11-12 km, has already worn out and deteriorated significantly. The poor condition has put a serious question mark on the quality and ratio of materials used and workmanship when it was constructed.

“Despite the black topping wearing off, the more alarming issue is the complete breakdown of a crucial culvert built using pipe culvert,” said local sources, adding that this culvert, located at the zero point of the road, serves as an essential connection for local villagers and commuters.

They said that the current state of the bridge poses a serious threat to vehicles, with drivers forced to move through alternative routes along the roadside, exposing them to potential dangers.

“Locals who are familiar with the road manage to bypass the damaged section, but for first-time travellers, the risk of an accident is significantly higher,” said sources.

They added that several pilgrims travel towards Shiv Khori, which also includes VIP convoys. Surprisingly, despite government officials, ministers, and local representatives (MLAs, DDC, BDC members) regularly using this road, the damage has not been addressed.

Talking to Northlines, a senior officer of PMGSY, wishing anonymity acknowledged that the road’s condition is poor but distanced himself from responsibility, stating that the construction was completed before his tenure.

Locals have urged the concerned authorities and elected representatives to take immediate steps to repair the bridge before a major accident occurs.
