Cops jailed for attacking judge, pointing gun at him during hearing

Date:

An Additional District and Sessions Court Judge (ASJ) in the Jhanjharpur area of Bihar’s Madhubani district was allegedly attacked by two police officers on Thursday when he was in the middle of a hearing. Both the cops have been sent to jail.

Station House Officer (SHO) Gopal Prasad and sub-inspector Abhimanyu Kumar, both posted at the Ghoghardiha police station, were supposed to appear in court in connection with a case. When they entered the courtroom, they allegedly attacked judge Avinash Kumar and also pointed a gun at him.

They also allegedly injured many lawyers and court staff who intervened to protect the judge.

According to sources, judge Avinash Kumar remains in the news due to his judgments. He has also commented about the district’s superintendent of police on many occasions in his judgments.

Bar Association Jhanjharpur vice-president condemned the incident and called it an attempt to suppress the judicial system. He has also raised questions over the superintendent of police of the district.

The lawyers of the Bar Association demanded a judicial inquiry in the matter, failing which they threatened to go on agitation.
