CM Sharma condemns rude behaviour of doctor with a lawyer, patient

Date:

Tawi, May 23: Chander Mohan Sharma, Advocate and former Member of J&K State Human Rights Commission today condemned physical manhandling of a young Advocate, Jattan Singh Gill by Dr. Arun Sharma, the head of Apollo Gastro, Lever and Gynae Clinic when the Advocate made a query on various lab and diagnostic tests and medicines prescribed for his wife by the doctor.

Sharma said such incidents of arrogant and rude behaviour by medical practitioners are very common nowadays and impressed upon the medical fraternity both in Hospitals and in private practice to adopt a polite and humane approach towards the patients and their attendants. He said merely polite and attentive handling of patients has a huge impact on the ailing patients in recovering fast.

“Medical Services and management are pious professions and a large number of medical practitioners do abide by their oath and ethics, however, the extreme commercialisation of the medical profession and degeneration of human values in it is harmful to the society in a long run,” Sharma said.

He said, a report published in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry recently also pointed towards the menace of rude behaviour by the doctors and paramedical staff with the patients.

He further said that Sh JP Nadda, when he was the Union Health Minister had publically impressed upon the medical fraternity to show compassion and kindness while treating patients adding that the high respect held by people for doctors is getting ‘eroded' due to increasing complaints of rude behaviour.

Such incidents are Human Rights Violations and against the rights of patients and should not happen. He demanded the State Medical Council to look into the matter and take appropriate action. He also urged the police to take cognizance of the matter and take legal action against the erring doctor/clinic.
