Woman arrested for “veiled” bombing of CRPF camp

Sopore (Baramulla), Mar 31: Police on Thursday arrested a woman accused of hurling a petrol bomb at a CRPF camp in Sopore town of 's Baramulla district on March 29. The act was caught on CCTV cameras.

The accused was identified as Haseena Akhtar. Vijay Kumar IGP Kashmir told today that there are three FIRs registered against her under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“She is an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of LeT,” IGP Kumar said.

The 28-year-old Hasina Akhtar from Baramulla area of north Kashmir, allegedly came in contact with pro-Pakistan separatist Asiya Andrabi, already in jail for terror funding case registered by the Investigation Agency (NIA), during 2008. In the year 2019, a case was registered in Handwara against her for posting posters of terrorist outfit LeT.

A class 10 passout from Hanafia school, Akhtar was arrested by and Kashmir Police in 2021. She is out on bail since December last year.

Besides, her husband, Mohammed Yousuf Bhat was an alleged stone pelter and he was booked under PSA for 17 months in the year 2016.

Akhtar, covered in a burqa, was captured in CCTV footage hurling the petrol bomb at the security bunker in Sopore on Tuesday evening. There was no injury in the incident and she managed to escape.
