BCCI to invite applications for Team India head coach role, Dravid can reapply
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that they will soon be looking for applications to fill the role of head coach for the Indian men's national cricket team. The current head coach, Rahul Dravid, has been in the position since 2021 and his contract is set to end after the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year.
In a statement, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the board will begin the process of hiring a new coach after the conclusion of the ICC event in the West Indies. Shah also mentioned that Dravid has the option to re-apply for the role if he wishes to extend his tenure beyond the existing contract. “Dravid's time as coach finishes following the World Cup. We will launch the application window for the head coach role and if Dravid wants to re-apply, he is welcome to do so,” Shah said.
The BCCI secretary informed that the tenure for the next Indian coach will be fixed at three years. The cricket board will also consult with the Coach Selection Committee to recruit support staff members to assist the head coach.
Two groups of players will travel to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup, with those involved in the IPL playoffs leaving at a later date. The BCCI plans to review the ‘Impact Player' rule utilized in the recent IPL season along with other items at a post-World Cup meeting involving various stakeholders. Suggestions for domestic cricket reforms will also be implemented, including addressing scheduling issues for tournaments held during winters.
