Early on Monday morning, terrorists launched an attack targeting an Army post located in the Gundha area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. According to reports, at around 4 am the terrorists opened fire on the security forces’ post. The troops guarding the post responded swiftly and forcefully, engaging in an intense exchange of gunfire with the assailants. After prolonged firing from both sides, the Army personnel succeeded in thwarting the terrorist assault. No casualties were reported among the security forces.
In the aftermath of foiling the attack, a cordon and search operation was immediately launched by the forces to track down the terrorists. Reports indicate that an Army jawan and a local civilian sustained injuries during the militant attack. As security personnel worked to locate the perpetrators, fresh clashes broke out between terrorists and security forces in the vicinity. The search operation remained underway as more details came to light.
It is believed the terrorists first targeted the home of an ex-Army member from a village defence group on the outskirts of a hamlet. However, the presence of police personnel in the area forced the assailants to flee without achieving their goal. They then redirected their assault towards the nearby Army post in Gundha. Security forces continue conducting sweeps of the surrounded area to neutralize any remaining threats.
