Richa Ghosh’s 64 fires India to highest Women’s T20I total
In the ongoing Asia Cup match between India and United Arab Emirates, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh played a stellar innings of 64 runs to power India to their highest ever total in Women’s T20 Internationals.
India won the toss and opted to bat first. Their innings got off to a shaky start as they lost three wickets for just 42 runs in the powerplay phase of the first six overs. However, Harmanpreet Kaur (66 runs) and Ghosh joined hands to stabilize the innings with a crucial partnership. Ghosh came out to bat at number five when India’s score was 106-4 in the 12th over.
The youngster wasted no time in shifting gears as she peppered the off-side boundary with some gorgeous strokeplay. She scored her runs at an incredible strike rate of over 220. Ghosh hit a total of 12 fours and one six in her 29-ball knock, scoring the majority of her runs square and behind the wicket on the off-side.
Ghosh’s power-packed innings helped India accelerate towards the end. She was rightly named the Player of the Match for her match-winning contribution. India posted a challenging total of 201-5, their highest ever in women’s T20Is.
In reply, United Arab Emirates fell short by 78 runs despite a fighting knock from their captain. India thus registered their second consecutive win in the tournament to solidify their position at the top of the points table.
Richa Ghosh’s masterful innings was a reminder of her big-hitting abilities and will surely boost India’s confidence ahead of further crucial games in the competition.
