Amarnath Yatra remains suspended from Baltal Axis

    Date:

Srinagar, Aug 12: remained suspended from the Baltal Axis for the second consecutive day on Monday to carry out necessary track repair works damaged due to recent heavy rainfall.

No fresh batch of yatris was allowed to proceed from the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district towards the cave shrine today as the repair work is underway to make the track walk worthy, damaged due to the recent rainfall, officials said.

The Yatra was also suspended from the traditional NunWan Pahalgam side in south on August 6 following heavy rains that caused damage to the route.

The requisite repair and maintenance works are already being carried out on the Pahalgam route of the Yatra.

The annual 52-day-long Amarnath yatra began on June 29 from the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal district and Nunwan Pahalgam in south Kashmir and will culminate on August 19 on Raksha Bandhan day.

More than 5 lakh pilgrims have so far paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the Kashmir Himalayas.
