It is difficult to understand that Jammu and Kashmir, which is combating terrorism for the last several decades with the fighting spirit and in accomplishing this pursuit, has developed efficient and daring police force and a world class network of intelligence sleuths who have the capability to unearth things which normally cannot be revealed by any power on earth. With such an advanced resource base, the concerned authorities are unable to curb the drug menace in the Union Territory is something which is raising many questions.
Substance abuse today is the main reason behind ruining of the youths in Jammu and Kashmir, and to the surprise of one and all, every drug abuser knows very well that from where he or she will get the drugs but sadly, the cops are still unaware and are struggling to cope up with this scourge as they still rely on conventional methods to act against drug menace.
With the best intelligence network on their side, cops are not being able to contain the drug menace in the region, which is disappointing because drug addicts have this knowledge as they get their drug doses well in time by getting the consignments right away but unfortunately this information is not available with the men in khaki, which is a bit intriguing and raises several questions including the one pointing towards connivance between them and the drug peddlers.
The higher ups in the police force should ponder over the issue and accordingly chalk out future strategy as by remaining complacent towards drug menace, the people engaged in anti-drug operations are doing a great disservice towards the society, which should not be the case.
Notably, J&K Police yesterday busted Pakistan based narco smuggling module in Baramulla and drugs weighing 7.800 kg (value Rs 50 Crore approximately) and cash worth Rs 12,63,500 were recovered from the possession of drug peddlers. Lately in Jammu region, four drug peddlers have been arrested from Samba District for their involvement in drug smuggling during a Naka at Vijaypur.
No doubt, routine checking also pays dividends in this case, but a more comprehensive strategy and multipronged approach is the need of the time to completely eradicate menacing drugs from the society.
