After several years a traditional exchange of sweets was witnessed between India and Pakistan on the occasion of Eid-ul- Fitr along the line of control in Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday. During the day jawans of the Indian Army met their Pakistani counterparts at various locations and exchanged pleasantries along with sweets.
In Jammu region, the sweets were exchanged by the representatives of both the Armies in an atmosphere of bonhomie & festivities at Poonch-Rawalakot Crossing Point & Mendhar-Hotspring Crossing Point in Poonch district. Similar meetings were held in Kashmir region at the Tithwal crossing on Kishanganga River in Tangdhar, Kupwara & Kaman Aman Setu in Uri.
Defence PRO in Jammu,Lt Col Devender Anand said, “the ceremony is seen as a confidence building measure in the backdrop of recently agreed ceasefire between both the countries. The gesture was appreciated by both the armies and expected to promote good will & mutual trust”.
“The newly achieved calm along the Line of Control as a result of renewed ceasefire has brought warmth, which has been displayed on several occasions between the two neighbours.
Exchange of inadvertently crossed over youths on three occasions in the last two months at the zero line in Tithwal bode well for the future”, Defence PRO in Srinagar said.
The exchange of sweets and pleasantries was conducted with full adherence to all Covid Protocols by both sides, he added.
