Jammu Tawi, Mar 6: The Drug Control Organization has suspended the licenses of 36 drugstores for violating the rules of the Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940. According to the drug controller, drugstores located in remote rural areas were subjected to surprise inspections. Six licenses were suspended in Jammu district, six in Samba, two in Kathua, six in Kishtwar, four in Udhampur and 12 in Ramban district.
According to drug controller Lotika Khajuria, most shops did not keep their records. There was no cleaning in the shops. All the shopkeepers were warned that strict action would be taken if they did not address their shortcomings. Apart from this, samples of a total of 450 medicines, including antibiotic, vaccine, steroid, were picked up and sent for examination during the inspection.
Samples were also taken from government institutions to check the efficiency of medicines. All samples were sent to the state’s drug lab. During this time, two shops were also found which did not have licenses. These shops were operating in Madheen in Kathua district. Action was started against both the shopkeepers on the spot. During the inspection, medicines worth Rs 9191 were also seized.
