People have to walk miles to fetch water for daily chores: Locals
Sopore, Feb 22: The residents of Tujjar village of Sopore Baramulla are facing water scarcity from last many years as the construction work on water supply was stopped last year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
A group of locals said that the village is without safe drinking water for many years.
“Several times we brought this matter into the notice of administration but all in vain. We are forced to take unsafe drinking water from nearby streams,” they said.
“We are affected by the scarcity of safe drinking water. On a daily basis people of the village are striving hard to get safe potable water, usually women and girls, walk miles to get safe drinking water,” Hameeda a local woman said.
Abdul Majeed, another resident said, that the construction work on the water supply station at Shalpora Tujjar was stopped last year due to Covid-19 which could have played a pivotal role in mitigating our sufferings.
Local residents appealed to the district administration to look into the matter to mitigate the problems faced by them and to take swift action to resolve the public grievance.
