Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNO): The Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry on Friday informed that Avian influenza popularly known as Bird flu was confirmed among poultry and crows in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ministry of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan informed Rajya Sabha that the avian influenza cases have been confirmed among crows and poultry in seven districts of J&K.
He said that avian influenza cases have been confirmed in crows in Pulwama, Anantnag, Budgam, Kulgam, Baramulla and Poonch and influenza has been confirmed among poultry in Udhampur.
He said that advisories in this regard were issued to States/UTs for increased surveillance and bio security in poultry farms and they have been asked to increase surveillance around water bodies, live bird markets, zoos, poultry farms and also carry out proper disposal of carcasses and take precautionary measures.
He further added that they have been asked to set up control rooms to monitor daily progress of preventive and control measures.
The minister said that avian influenza cases have been confirmed from Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, New Delhi, J&K, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan—(KNO)
