Centre Okays 850 MW Ratle Hydel Project in Kishtwar

    ‘Rs 5822 Cr project to create 4000 jobs to be commissioned in 5 years’

     Jammu Tawi, Jan 20: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir, Manoj Sinha Wednesday said that despite opposition from Pakistan, the Union Cabinet, led by the Prime Minister, approved the 850 MW Rattle power project to be commissioned in five years.

    “Let me announce here that the Union cabinet that met under the chairmanship of PM Modi granted sanction to the 850 MW Rattle power project worth Rs 5822 Crore. The project will be commissioned in five years,” the LG Sinha told media in Jammu.

    He said that the Rattle power project has been approved despite threats from Pakistan that it would take the issue to International court and the world-bank.

    The project will create 4000 jobs directly and indirect and first preference will be given to the local youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the LG Sinha said.

    He said that the J&K administration and the Centre is committed to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to each household in coming times. “The project share will be 51 per cent by NHPC and 49 per cent by J&K SPDC,” the LG said.

    According to sources, the 850 MW Ratle HEP would be developed in a Joint Venture between the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and JK Power Development Corporation. The Ratle HEP will be a run-of-the river Hydroelectric power station on the Chenab River, downstream of the village near Drabshalla in Kistwar district of Union Territory of J&K

    Sinha said that in next five years J&K administration will be investing Rs 52821 crores in power sector. “In next five years, 12000 direct and indirect jobs will be created and first preference will be given to local youth of J&K,” the LG Sinha.

    He said that from 1947 to 2018, J&K generated only 3400 MWs of power while from 2018 onwards power generation increased.  “The total generation target of the J&K administration is 6300 MWs,” the LG said.

    In addition, the Kwar project (540 MW) has been decided to be taken up.  This will result in an investment of Rs.4,264 Crores and create more than 2000 jobs in the UT,  the LG said.

    The LG Sinha said that four more projects (Kirthai-II (930MW), Sawalkot (1,856MW), Uri-I (Stage-II) (240MW) and Dulhasti (Stage-II) (258MW) involving an investment of Rs.31,000 Cr have also been decided to be taken up for construction.  “These projects together with the two ongoing projects of Pakaldul (1000 MW) and Kiru (624MW) on Chenab river and its tributaries will result in an investment of about Rs.52,821 Crores and create more than 12000 jobs in the Union Territory,” the LG said.

    The 1000 MW Pakal Dul project and 624 MW Kiru are already under execution by Chenab Valley Power Project Pvt Limited

    The LG also urged people to get Covid-19 vaccine shots as early as possible stating that the vaccine is totally safe and approve by the Scientific Regulatory Authority of India.

    J&K has over 20000 MW of hydro Power potential out of which 16000 MW has been identified.
