    10th batch of over 9,000 Amarnath pilgrims leaves Jammu base camp

    Jammu, Jul 11:  The tenth batch of more than 9,000 Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Friday for the twin base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam in south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security arrangements.

    Officials said 9,182 pilgrims departed early morning in a convoy of 333 vehicles, including light and heavy motor vehicles.

    The batch included 3,305 pilgrims heading towards Baltal and 5,877 pilgrims bound for Pahalgam. The pilgrimage movement was carried out under a multi-layered security cover with coordination among the civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, security forces and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

    However, more than two lakh yatris from different parts of country visited cave shrine during last eight days since the yatra started.

    Jammu and Kashmir administration has also appealed to the pilgrims to perform the pilgrimage only after confirmed registration and on the scheduled date of yatra as no unregistered pilgrim shall be allowed to proceed to the base camps.

    Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had flagged off the first batch of the pilgrimage from Jammu on July 2. (UNI)
