New Delhi, Jul 11: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has capped the retail prices of 39 essential medicines and revised the prices of Calcium and Vitamin D3 tablets and Anti-Rabies Immunoglobulin injection, aiming to improve affordability and ensure the availability of critical medicines across the country.
According to official notifications, the NPPA has fixed the retail price of Calcium and Vitamin D3 tablets at Rs 8.93 per tablet, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). In a separate notification, it revised the retail price of Anti-Rabies Immunoglobulin Injection to Rs 119.48 as part of its periodic review of essential medicines.
The authority has also fixed ceiling prices for 39 medicines used in the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions under the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013.
The revised pricing is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to make essential medicines more affordable and prevent excessive pricing in the pharmaceutical market. The NPPA has directed manufacturers and marketers to implement the revised prices immediately and print the updated Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on product packs along with the mandatory declarations.
Industry officials said the inclusion of Calcium-Vitamin D3 tablets, commonly prescribed for bone health, and Anti-Rabies Immunoglobulin, used in post-exposure prophylaxis, would benefit both patients and healthcare institutions. The price capping of medicines used for lifestyle and cardiac diseases is also expected to reduce long-term treatment costs for households.
The NPPA said the revised prices were determined after considering market data and input costs. The notifications apply to manufacturers, importers and retailers nationwide, with retailers instructed to clear stocks carrying old MRPs in accordance with DPCO norms. With the latest revision, the authority has further expanded price regulation across key therapeutic categories in 2026. (Agencies)
