Railways orders probe, suspends CTI over unauthorized ‘Wedding Night’ decoration in First AC coach

Mumbai, July 9: Indian Railways has suspended a Chief Ticket Inspector (CTI) and ordered a departmental inquiry after an unauthorised floral decoration was carried out inside a First AC coach of the Nanded–Mumbai Nandigram Express for a newly married couple, officials said on Thursday.
The action follows the emergence of a video on social media showing a First AC compartment decorated with flowers, balloons, rose petals and decorative lighting, raising concerns over security and access to one of the train’s premium coaches.
According to railway sources, the incident occurred on July 6 aboard Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express. The couple, travelling from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Mumbai, had reserved berths 19 and 20 in the First AC ‘G’ coach.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the couple had reportedly hired a Jalna-based decorator through an online service to decorate the compartment for their wedding night. A person associated with the firm allegedly boarded the train at Jalna station and completed the decorations while the train was en route.
Railway authorities said no permission had been sought or granted for decorating the coach or allowing a private individual to enter the reserved First AC compartment, describing it as a violation of established safety and access protocols.
The CTI on duty has been placed under suspension pending completion of the inquiry. Officials said the departmental probe will determine responsibility, examine whether standard operating procedures were violated and recommend further action based on its findings. (Agencies)
