Jammu, March 24: India Meteorological Department has forecast generally dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir for the next two days, with a fresh spell of rain and snowfall expected from the night of March 28.
According to the forecast, March 24 and 25 will remain largely dry across the Union Territory, while March 26 is expected to witness generally cloudy skies with light rain or snow at a few places during the afternoon.
Weather conditions are likely to stay mostly dry till the evening of March 28, after which light rain, snowfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected at many places.
Between March 29 and March 31, the region is likely to experience generally cloudy weather, with light to moderate rain in the plains and snowfall over higher reaches at several locations. Thunderstorms, isolated hailstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are also likely during this period.
The MeT department has issued an advisory warning of moderate snowfall over higher reaches and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at many places from the night of March 28 to the forenoon of March 31.
Weather conditions are expected to improve from April 1.
Meanwhile, light rainfall was recorded at several places in the Kashmir division, while night temperatures remained near normal across most stations.
As per data, Srinagar recorded 0.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Qazigund received 1.0 mm. Pahalgam recorded 6.6 mm, Kupwara 1.2 mm, and Kokernag 4.2 mm. The ski resort Gulmarg recorded 3.2 mm rainfall.
Night temperatures were 1–3°C above normal at many places in the Kashmir division, while they were 1–4°C below normal across parts of the Jammu division. The lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir was recorded at Gulmarg at minus 1.4°C, while Bhaderwah in Jammu division recorded 3.4°C, the MeT department said. (UNI)
