Jammu Tawi, Mar 20: A new political battle has begun in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) ahead of the upcoming second half of the Assembly session as the political parties here have pulled up their socks before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to keep their vote bank intact as also to bring more voters in their party.

The SIR in the UT of J&K is most likely to be held next month. The J&K unit of the BJP has deputed all its office bearers and other top leaders to all the 20 districts of J&K to make the people aware about SIR, keeping in view that its core vote bank remains intact besides bringing more people into the party ahead of the SIR exercise.

Similarly, the Congress Party has also assigned duties to its senior leaders and the booth level workers to keep a close watch on the upcoming SIR exercise to keep its core voters intact on the party lines.

“We apprehend that genuine voters, especially of our party may be deleted in the SIR exercise and the BJP voters may be included,” Chief Spokesperson of JKPCC, Ravinder Sharma, told the Northlines, while adding, “We have directed our ground level workers and the leaders to keep a close watch on SIR exercise in J&K”.

He said that as per reports from across the country, we are doubtful about the SIR exercise as we apprehend that our (Cong) voters may be deleted and BJP voters may be added in the voter list.

Keeping in view all this, we have directed our senior leaders and the ground level workers to keep a close watch on the upcoming SIR exercise in J&K, the JKPCC Chief Spokesperson said.

Similarly, the J&K unit of the BJP has also worked out a large scale plan as per which it has assigned duties to its senior leaders and the office bearers in all the 20 districts of this UT to keep a close watch on the upcoming SIR exercise and make sure that its core voter remains intact, sources said.

Nearly 12,000 officials will be involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise to be conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Jammu and Kashmir, likely from the month of April.

Lists of documents are being finalized by the officials as part of preparatory exercise before commencement of the SIR.

Officials are being readied for their crucial role in the SIR in Jammu and Kashmir by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) following the ECI directive that the exercise in 22 States/Union Territories including Jammu and Kashmir is likely to commence in April.
