LPG eKYC Mandatory Only for Unverified Consumers, Govt Clarifies

New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that LPG Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (eKYC) is mandatory only for consumers whose connections remain unauthenticated, addressing concerns over compulsory verification for all users.

In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said the eKYC requirement applies selectively and is not needed for customers whose details are already verified. The clarification comes amid confusion among domestic LPG users regarding the scope of the mandate.

The government said the biometric Aadhaar authentication process is aimed at ensuring proper identification of beneficiaries and preventing duplication or misuse of LPG connections.

It added that eligible consumers who have already completed authentication need not undergo the process again, while unauthenticated users are required to complete eKYC to continue availing services without disruption.

The ministry reiterated that the move is part of efforts to streamline LPG distribution, improve transparency, and ensure that benefits reach genuine consumers. (Agencies)
