    GoI to provide 75 seven-mtr e-mini buses

Will ply & link inner uptown areas of Jammu

Jammu Tawi, March 14: The public transport in the entire Jammu province is soon going to be revolutionized as the Government of India (GoI) has decided to provide seventy five (75) eco-friendly (e-buses) measuring 7 mtrs, almost the size of a minibus, to this region under the Prime Minister (PM) e-bus Sewa.

The decision for these 75 e-buses has been taken by the GoI on the request of the J&K Government. These 7 mtr buses will ply and cover the interior uptown areas of Jammu which so far remained unserved with public transport.

Apart from this, these mini buses will also ease traffic congestion in Jammu, especially in the city. More importantly, these buses will connect most of the interior areas of Jammu City, which so far have been devoid of public transport due to congested roads and lanes.

“The tenders for 75 e-buses measuring 7 mtrs each have been finalized and the documentation process for signing of the contract is also in the final stages,” senior officer of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand, confirmed, when approached by the Northlines.

These mini size buses will connect almost each and every area of Jammu, especially the city, with eco-friendly public transport, the officer said. These 75 buses will be eco-friendly and will have both Air Conditioners in summers and heating systems in winters.

As of now, 100 general e-buses ply on different routes of Jammu region but these ply only on the outskirts and the interior areas of Jammu region, especially of the Jammu City, are not connected with public transport.

These e-buses are of the size 9 mtr and 12 mtr, and, therefore, the interior areas of Jammu are not having access to public transport as these buses cannot ply on the congested roads due to their size.

Keeping in view all these factors, the J&K Government requested the GoI to provide 7 mtr mini buses to ease traffic congestion and also to provide access to public transport to the interior areas.

The central government, on the request of the J & K Government, approved the proposal for 75 mini buses the size of a matador, and now the process is in its final stages.

The rates for these 75 buses will also be finalized during signing of the contract.
