    No Plan To Open New Wine Shops In J&K, Govt Tells Assembly

    Jammu, Feb 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that there is no proposal to open new wine shops in the Union Territory during the next financial year.

    In a written reply by the Finance Department to a question raised by MLA Arjun Singh Raju, the Minister In-Charge stated that no new liquor licences are proposed to be issued in Jammu and Kashmir at present.

    The government also placed on record district-wise revenue generated from existing wine shops during the last two financial years, 2023–24 and 2024–25.

    According to official data, Jammu district generated ₹48,350.15 in revenue in 2024 and ₹50,913.93 in 2025. Udhampur recorded ₹11,322.00 in 2024 and ₹12,061.50 in 2025, while Reasi generated ₹3,371.00 in 2024 and ₹3,450.50 in 2025. Kathua reported revenue of ₹10,653.00 in 2024 and ₹11,272.00 in 2025, and Samba earned ₹9,138.06 in 2024 and ₹9,740.15 in 2025. Doda registered ₹2,353.61 in 2024 and ₹2,448.17 in 2025.

    Similarly, Kishtwar generated ₹1,681.90 in 2024 and ₹1,887.59 in 2025, Ramban ₹2,299.95 in 2024 and ₹2,476.70 in 2025, Rajouri ₹4,806.19 in 2024 and ₹5,336.96 in 2025, and Poonch ₹1,497.78 in 2024 and ₹1,768.92 in 2025.

    In the Kashmir division, Srinagar generated ₹5,489.67 in revenue in 2024 and ₹6,557.66 in 2025. Ganderbal recorded ₹223.45 in 2024 and ₹319.69 in 2025, Baramulla ₹872.23 in 2024 and ₹1,139.84 in 2025, Kupwara ₹415.66 in 2024 and ₹442.96 in 2025, while Anantnag generated ₹1,403.50 in 2024 and ₹1,999.50 in 2025.

    The government further clarified that no complaints have been received regarding the issuance of benami liquor licences. It reiterated that all liquor licences are issued strictly to domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the provisions of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, and the excise policy notified from time to time.
