    Promises Turn Into Action

Finally the Omar Abdullah led National Conference Government has started working full throttle to fulfill its long pending promises and proving its mettle by taking back to back decisions to provide succor to the needy sections of the society.

In this regard, the Chief Minister has made several announcements in the Assembly that have the potential to bring smiles on the faces of people in need and those who care for the sections of society that have faced the difficult time on account of natural calamities and some others falling in the category of lesser income groups.

The first big announcement in this regard by the CM himself was about the approval of the allotment of five ‘marlas’ of land on a 40-year lease basis to landless families affected by natural calamities in 2025. Besides, it was also disclosed by the CM that over 6,400 families hit by flash floods and landslides in Udhampur district have been provided financial assistance. It has been made clear that the 5-marla of state land given to each landless family rendered homeless due to floods, landslides, cloudbursts and earthquakes in Jammu and Kashmir would be provided on a lease basis for residential purposes without charging any premium. The beneficiaries will be required to pay an annual ground rent of Rs 10 per marla for a period of 40 years, which can be extended further as per rules after approval by the competent authority.

Besides this, the government has also assured to provide 200 units of power free of cost to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households, the promise made by the National Conference in the run up to Assembly polls. This is also a big step in mitigating people’s worries as they have been confronting rising inflation for a long time now. Apart from giving a sigh of relief to people on these counts, the Chief Minister has come up with another delightful announcement for the segments of people in J&K by offering six free LPG cylinders per year to all Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households in Jammu and Kashmir.

For sure these measures by the government in J&K will win the hearts of the people and prove beyond doubt that what was promised to the people was meant to be fulfilled as these assurances were not merely a bait for garnering public support. The Omar Government has set a benchmark by delivering things without any compromise, which is seldom seen in the politics of the country thus making the NC a party with a difference.
