    New Delhi: The first lunar eclipse of 2026, popularly known as the Blood Moon, is just a month away and is set to be visible across large parts of India on March 2, exciting space and astronomy enthusiasts.

    According to available details, the total lunar eclipse will begin at 3:22 pm IST and conclude at 6:47 pm IST. During the event, the Earth will pass directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the lunar surface and giving it a reddish hue. Such total lunar eclipses occur only once or twice a year.

    The Blood Moon will be visible in almost all parts of India, with clear visibility expected in eastern regions including Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. It will also be seen in eastern parts of West Bengal, including areas around Guwahati, Aizawl, Itanagar and Kolkata.

    In other major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Lucknow, the partial phase of the lunar eclipse will be visible. The eclipse will also be observable from several parts of Asia, North America, South America and Australia.

    Astronomy enthusiasts can watch the Blood Moon with the naked eye, as no special equipment or protective glasses are required. However, binoculars may enhance the viewing experience.

    Experts note that visibility will depend on local conditions such as weather, cloud cover and pollution levels. Skywatchers are advised to choose locations with clear skies and minimal light or air pollution for the best view.
