    Light to Moderate Rain, Snow Likely in J&K on Feb 1–2: MeT

    Srinagar, Jan 28 (KINS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT) on Wednesday forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir on February 1 and 2, advising caution for travellers, farmers and people in higher reaches.

    According to the MeT forecast, the region witnessed widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall during the past 24 hours, while isolated areas experienced heavy precipitation.

    The weather office said that on January 28, light rain or snowfall is likely at a few places. From January 29 to 31, weather is expected to remain generally dry, although skies may turn cloudy towards the evening of January 31.

    For February 1 and 2, generally cloudy conditions are expected, with light to moderate rain or snowfall at scattered to fairly widespread places. From February 3 to 6, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy, with the possibility of moderate to heavy rain, snowfall or thunderstorms at isolated locations.

    Travellers and transporters have been advised to check road and highway conditions with concerned traffic authorities and strictly adhere to administrative advisories. Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations till January 28.

    People residing in snow-bound higher reaches have been cautioned against venturing into slippery and avalanche-prone areas. The situation will continue to be monitored and further updates will be issued as required, the MeT office said. (KINS)
