It is the right time that Jammu and Kashmir Police should gird up their loins and fight back the rising crime graph in and around Jammu city as law and order seems to be deteriorating with each passing day.
A report stating that three local youths were allegedly attacked by a group of unidentified persons near Rohingya immigrants-inhabited Kiryani Talab locality three days back is testimony to the fact that unscrupulous elements have started challenging law enforcement agencies showing as if they have no fear of law.
Though police has taken cognizance in the matter and has registered an FIR under relevant sections of BNS at Police Station Bahu Fort and started inquest proceedings but the rise in such cases is a matter of grave concern. Jammu, which conventionally was considered a crime-free region sometime back, has slowly turned into the crime-hotspot and if the proactive action is not taken by the cops, it is likely that things might go out of hand in the coming time. Though in the aforesaid case certain political entities have been pinpointing a particular section, but one cannot confirm without the final outcome of the probe. It has been reported that the incident happened on Sunday night when three local youth, Shan Goswami, Vinay and Sushant Goswami were mocked by some unidentified people near Kiryani Talab for applying vermillion marks on their foreheads. When the local youth objected, the unidentified persons attacked them with punches and kicks, leaving them injured.
Looking at the rise in such incidents in and around Jammu as recently the criminals had even attacked police parties at outskirts of Jammu city, it has become necessary for the police to improve its functioning and enhance the number of beat constables and other personnel on ground especially the vulnerable spots where such cases occur more often.
The J&K’s administration should take such cases very seriously and issue directions to people helming the affairs of the police to work on solving all such cases on fast track basis and ensure that the crime graph witnesses downfall as peace and tranquility in Jammu is vital for economy to remain stable because tourism here is one of the mainstays of the economy and any deterioration in law and order can play a spoilsport leading to reduction in footfall of visitors especially the devotees of holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Deviji. The atmosphere in Jammu is fragile and any mishandling could prove dearly therefore cops have a big responsibility on their shoulders to maintain law and order and keep the outlaws and unscrupulous elements at bay.
