Jammu, Jan 08: In a move aimed at ensuring transparency and regional balance, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Jammu and Kashmir, has ordered fresh trial matches for 48 Under-14 cricketers shortlisted from the Jammu and Srinagar divisions.
The decision follows recommendations made by a five-member committee constituted by DYSS after controversy arose over the selection of the J&K Under-14 cricket team. The issue surfaced after the Inter-District UT-level Under-14 Cricket League trials were conducted between January 10 and January 12, 2026.
According to an official order, the committee carried out a detailed scrutiny of score sheets, match records, performance data and eligibility documents of players who took part in the trials. The panel was mandated to assess whether the selection process strictly adhered to prescribed norms, including age eligibility and performance criteria.
After examination, the committee recommended conducting a fresh round of trials involving 48 shortlisted players, drawn equally from Jammu Division and Srinagar Division, to ensure fairness, transparency and equal opportunity.
Accepting the recommendations, the Directorate directed that the shortlisted players be called for fresh trial matches. The order also stipulated that the trials must be preceded by strict age verification and fitness checks to avoid any discrepancies.
Officials said the fresh trials are intended to restore confidence in the selection process and ensure merit-based representation in the Under-14 cricket team.
