New Delhi, Nov 10: In one of the largest explosives recoveries near the national capital, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday recovered 300 kilograms of RDX, an AK-47 rifle, and ammunition from Faridabad in Haryana. The massive seizure comes just days after the arrest of a Kashmiri doctor from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur for allegedly promoting terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar.
According to police sources, the Faridabad recovery was made following disclosures by Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather during interrogation. Investigators said the explosives and weapons were stored with another doctor, identified as Mujahil Shakeel, who is now under scrutiny.
Earlier, an AK-47 rifle and ammunition were recovered from Rather’s locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag. Officials confirmed that the latest recovery resulted from a joint operation between the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police.
Rather has already been booked under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Police sources indicated that his alleged involvement points to a disturbing trend of terror groups recruiting educated professionals to aid their operations.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind stockpiling such a large cache of explosives near Delhi and probing how it was transported undetected. “A detailed investigation is underway to determine the purpose of these explosives and identify other possible collaborators,” an official said.
The case originated after posters supporting Jaish-e-Mohammed appeared across parts of Srinagar. CCTV footage led police to identify Rather as the man behind the act, following which he was tracked down and arrested in Saharanpur last week. (Agencies)
