Jammu, Oct 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is scheduled to meet today at 4 PM in Srinagar’s Civil Secretariat to deliberate on key development and legislative proposals ahead of the upcoming Assembly session starting October 23.
The Cabinet is expected to consider increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for MLAs from ₹3 crore to ₹4 crore per annum, responding to long-standing demands from legislators. The fund was last revised in 2018 and remained unchanged after the new government assumed office in 2024.
Another major agenda item is the relaxation of the qualification requirement under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme, currently mandating that poor girls be at least “Middle Pass” to receive benefits. The proposed change aims to make financial aid accessible to a larger number of eligible beneficiaries.
The Cabinet is also likely to approve the e-auction of limestone mineral blocks, a ₹45.80 crore sewerage scheme in Gulmarg, and several legislative proposals, including the J&K Shops and Establishments Bill, 2025, and amendments to the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
Additional items include the reorganization of Town Planning Organizations, transfer of 391 kanals and 6 marlas of state land to the Forest Department for compensatory afforestation, upgradation of posts in Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, creation of a supernumerary Lecturer post in GMC Srinagar, and continuation of Heritage Craft Courses in 15 Government ITIs and Polytechnic Colleges.
All decisions taken by the Cabinet will be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor for formal approval, as mandated under the current administrative framework.
