Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh, Sept 25: In response to evolving border threats after Operation Sindoor, the Border Security Force (BSF) has established India’s first dedicated Drone Warfare School at its Tekanpur training academy to train personnel in offensive and defensive unmanned aerial operations.
The school, inaugurated last month, graduated its first batch of 40 officers and is currently training a second group of 47 personnel in the six-week Drone Commando course, covering drone piloting, tactics, rapid assembly, weaponisation, and counter-drone operations. Courses are designed for ranks from Subordinate Officers to Constables, with modules on research and development, and lessons drawn from five years of border incidents.
BSF officials said the school aims to counter threats from drone-enabled narcotics and weapons smuggling and to integrate drones into broader border surveillance and security operations. The curriculum includes defensive measures against rogue drones, jamming, spoofing, and practical field exercises simulating conditions on sensitive borders.
Officials highlighted that lessons from global conflicts, including Russia-Ukraine, are being incorporated. The school also procures jammers, radar trainers, and other counter-drone systems, with a total estimated procurement of around ₹20 crore.
The establishment reflects a strategic shift toward a technology-ready border force, capable of countering hybrid and asymmetric threats while enhancing operational readiness along India’s frontiers. (Agencies)
