Criminal Past, Secret Affair, and a Planned Murder: Delhi Man’s Violent End

New Delhi, Aug 3: In a chilling case of betrayal and murder, Delhi Police have arrested a 34-year-old woman and her boyfriend for allegedly killing her husband and dumping his body in a drain in Sonipat, Haryana. A third accused, Vijay, remains absconding.

The accused, identified as Soniya from Alipur and her 28-year-old boyfriend Rohit from Sonipat, allegedly conspired to eliminate 42-year-old Pritam Prakash—a history-sheeter with over 10 criminal cases and declared a proclaimed offender.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora, the murder was rooted in Soniya and Rohit’s illicit relationship and Pritam’s abusive behavior. On July 5, 2024, Pritam went to pick Soniya up from her sister’s home in Gannaur, Sonipat. After an argument and brief reconciliation, Soniya reportedly offered Rs 50,000 to Vijay—her sister’s brother-in-law—to kill Pritam.

That night, Vijay allegedly murdered Pritam and disposed of his body in a nearby drain. He recorded a video of the body and sent it to Soniya before deleting it. Two weeks later, Soniya filed a missing person report at Alipur Police Station.

With no digital or financial activity from Pritam, police grew suspicious. A breakthrough came when Pritam’s mobile number reactivated after a year—leading investigators to Rohit, who initially misled police but later confessed.

Haryana Police had recovered an unidentified body from the area, now believed to be Pritam’s. DNA testing is underway to confirm his identity. Investigators also found that Soniya sold Pritam’s auto-rickshaw for Rs 4.5 lakh and handed over his phone to Rohit.

Soniya had married Pritam at age 15, and the couple had three children. Despite marrying another woman in April 2025, Rohit continued his relationship with Soniya. He has four previous criminal cases, including murder.

Police are continuing their efforts to trace Vijay.
