13 Accused arrested; Stolen property worth Rs 27 lakh recovered
Jammu Tawi, July 3: Jammu Police South Zone said, it has cracked six theft cases—including two chain snatching incidents and one involving critical BSNL telecom infrastructure—leading to the arrest of 13 individuals, including one minor. The recoveries, made within just two and a half months, are valued at over Rs 27 lakh and include gold and diamond jewellery, copper wire, stolen vehicles, and construction materials.
Briefing media persons, Ajay Sharma, SP City South, informed that action was taken following multiple written complaints received at Police Stations regarding chain snatching incidents in Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar, motorcycle theft, and burglary of construction sites.
He informed that FIR No. 103/2025 and FIR No. 126/2025 under Section 304 BNS were registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar following chain snatching complaints in Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar. The police apprehended two accused—Pardeep Singh, son of Gandharab Singh, resident of Resham Ghar Colony, Jammu, and Virinder Singh, son of Arun Singh, resident of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The recovery in these cases included two gold chains, weighing approximately 50 grams (around 5 tolas).
In another case, FIR No. 142/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS was registered regarding the theft of a motorcycle. The accused, Mohd. Sadiq, son of Mohd. Yusaf, resident of Miran Sahib, was arrested and the stolen motorcycle bearing registration number JK02CE-7803 was recovered from his possession.
Further, in FIR No. 143/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS, police acted on a complaint regarding theft of construction materials. Two persons—Fazal Hussain, son of Sobat Ali, resident of Near Hospital, Jammu, and Chandan Kumar, son of Suresh Kumar, originally from Bihar and currently residing at Greater Kailash—were arrested. The police recovered stolen construction materials along with a suspected stolen scooty bearing registration number JK02DC-5835.
In a separate major operation, police cracked a case of theft of BSNL telecom infrastructure near the back gate of District Police Lines, Jammu. FIR No. 145/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS was registered. An investigation led to the arrest of five women, all residents of Pati Road, Barnala, Punjab. The arrested accused have been identified as Banti, wife of Lutera; Sapni, wife of Ashok; Babli, wife of Garibdas; Rajani, wife of Sanjay; and Salochana, wife of Jarnail Singh. Police recovered approximately 8 to 10 kilograms of stolen copper wire from their possession. Further recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
One of the most significant breakthroughs came in a high-value house theft case reported at Police Post Digiana. On May 9, 2025, Gurjeet Kour, wife of Late Gurjeet Singh and resident of Preet Nagar, lodged a complaint regarding the theft of jewellery from her house during the intervening night of May 7–8. FIR No. 113/2025 under Sections 331(2), 331(4), and 305 BNS was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
Three accused were apprehended in this case—Safar Ansari, age 23, son of Sajjad, resident of Kishanganj, Bihar, presently residing in Gangyal; Ibrahim, age 25, son of Sharif, resident of Behraich, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing in KC Colony, Gangyal; and a minor, whose name has been withheld. Police recovered gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately Rs 21 lakh from their possession. The recovered items include one gold choker set, two gold kitty sets, one gold locket set, two ladies’ gold kadas, four gold bangles, one pair of diamond ear tops, four gold earrings, and eight gold and diamond rings (both ladies’ and gents’).
The total recovery across all cases includes gold and diamond jewellery valued at Rs 21 lakh, approximately 8–10 kilograms of copper wire, two gold chains worth several lakh rupees, a stolen motorcycle, a suspected stolen scooty, and several items of construction material.
The SP City South urged the citizens of Jammu to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with police by reporting suspicious activities, which plays a vital role in preventing and solving crimes efficiently. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing in some of these cases and further recoveries cannot be ruled out.
