Robbers killed to bury the evidence
Jammu Tawi, April 6: In a chilling development in the Greater Kailash gold shop robbery case, Jammu Police have unearthed a dark and disturbing twist — the cold-blooded murder of a young man to cover up the crime.
On April 5, 2025, a missing report was lodged at Police Station Satwari by Ashok Kumar, son of Late Sh. Pooran Dass, regarding his son, Harsh Dev Sharma (24), who had left home 2–3 days earlier and had been untraceable despite the family’s persistent efforts. Ashok, along with Harsh’s brother, provided Harsh’s contact number for technical analysis.
During the investigation, Call Detail Records (CDR) and Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) revealed communication between Harsh Dev and three individuals — Rahul Sharma, Tushar Kumar, and Bharat Bhushan — all accused in FIR No. 19/2025 registered at PS Gangyal.
Bharat Bhushan (22), son of Nain Sukh, resident of Lower Kanal, Bishnah, was detained and subjected to sustained interrogation. During questioning, he made a startling confession. He revealed that Harsh Dev Sharma was a close friend of Sunil Sharma — one of the main accused in the robbery. On the day of the robbery, Sunil had inadvertently shared details of the planned heist with Harsh.
Soon after, on February 10, Sunil was deliberately sent to a drug de-addiction centre in Kathua by Rahul Sharma to avoid any direct police contact, effectively cutting off Harsh’s access to him.
After losing contact with Sunil, Harsh began reaching out to Rahul Sharma, demanding Sunil’s share of the loot and threatening to expose the robbery. His persistent pressure created panic among the conspirators. Fearing that Harsh might alert the police and compromise their escape, the main accused — Rahul Sharma (Advocate), son of Shashi Sharma, resident of Lower Kanal near Grameen Bank, Bishnah; Tushar Kumar (22), son of Late Sewa Ram, resident of Lower Kanal, Bishnah; and Bharat Bhushan — conspired to murder him.
Under the pretext of celebrating Rahul’s birthday, the trio took Harsh to the Surinsar–Mansar area, where they made him consume alcohol. Taking advantage of the moment, the accused murdered Harsh and, while returning, buried his body at a remote location approximately 8 km from Surinsar, in an attempt to destroy all evidence.
The missing report has now been converted into FIR No. 68/2025 under Sections 103/301/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Satwari. Further investigation is underway, with the police, along with EMIC and forensic teams, actively working the case. It is being closely monitored by senior officers of the South Zone under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu.
This shocking development exposes the depth of criminality and the lengths to which the accused went to safeguard their interests. Jammu Police remain committed to uncovering every layer of this heinous conspiracy and ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
