Srinagar, Apr 6: In a major success against the drug menace, Police in Anantnag district conducted a series of coordinated overnight raids, leading to the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotic substances.
The recovery was made from three residential houses in Wantrag village, under the jurisdiction of the Police Station Mattan.
Police recovered over 30 kg of charas powder during a series of coordinated raids in Wantrag village. Acting on specific inputs, police said they seized 23.33 kg from the residence of Jehangir Ahmad Khan, 3.67 kg from Reyaz Ahmad Khan, and 3.9 kg from Nowshad Pathan.
“The accused persons were arrested,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law were registered, and investigations are underway, and more arrests and recoveries are expected.
Meanwhile, the District Drug Disposal Committee, led by SP Sopore Divya D and DySP Mohammad Abdullah, destroyed a large consignment of narcotic and psychotropic substances seized in various NDPS cases across Police District Sopore.
Acting on the orders of the Special Court (NDPS) Baramulla, 4.646 kg of poppy straw/powder, 30 bottles of codeine phosphate, 10 Alpha drug tablets, and 1,981 Spasmoproxyvon capsules were incinerated at an approved site in Lassipora, Pulwama, in strict compliance with NDPS Rules, 2022, police said.
