Traffic restored on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

Banihal/Jammu, Feb 21: Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway resumed on Friday morning after being suspended overnight due to snowfall in the Banihal sector. The suspension, which began around 7 pm on Thursday, was caused by slippery road conditions between Ramsoo and Banihal in Ramban district, leaving over 300 vehicles stranded.

According to S.P. Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) for the national highway, traffic began flowing smoothly around 7 am on Friday from both directions. He noted that the road clearance agency had deployed snow-clearance machinery on Thursday evening, and most of the stranded vehicles were cleared by then.

With improved weather conditions on Friday morning, the clearance operation was expedited, allowing for the resumption of two-way traffic on the highway. Meanwhile, higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received snowfall, and the plains were affected by rains on Wednesday night and Thursday, ending a prolonged dry spell in the region.
