Dimple leads protest over traffic issues in Jammu

Jammu Tawi: Sunil Dimple, President of Mission Statehood Jammu & Kashmir, led a protest against the worsening traffic problems in Jammu city, highlighting the increasing number of accidents and deaths caused by poor traffic management. Dimple criticized the Jammu administration for its failure to address the issue, accusing the government of focusing more on issuing e-challans for revenue generation rather than improving the city’s traffic infrastructure.

Speaking to the protesters, Dimple described Jammu’s roads as “khooni” (bloodied) due to the frequent accidents and fatalities. He demanded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha take immediate action by constructing an exclusive ring road and initiating the construction of a metro train route from Amphalla Manda to Akhnoor, passing through Janipur, High Court, Roop Nagar, and Bantalab.

Dimple stressed that the construction of a four-way ring road connecting key areas like Amphalla Manda, Janipur High Court, Roop Nagar, Bantalab, and Akhnoor, along with the establishment of flyovers at Rehari Chungi and Jewel Chowk, would be the only long-term solution to the traffic chaos.

He also raised concerns about the traffic department’s e-challan system, calling it a form of harassment as it focuses on issuing fines rather than solving the root cause of traffic congestion. Additionally, he criticized the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for regularly confiscating goods from traders and disrupting their business, further exacerbating the traffic situation. Dimple urged the government to address the urgent need for road repairs, citing the poor condition of city roads and the absence of covers on sewerage manholes, which are major hazards.

He warned that if the situation is not improved, he would launch a larger agitation against the government’s inaction on Jammu’s traffic problems.
