It seems that the Police in Jammu should have to take certain concrete steps to tighten the noose around the thieves, who have lately become proactive as the city and its periphery have been witnessing cases of thefts and even robberies in the last few days.
There is a commotion among the residents as never in the past because the region witnessed a surge in crime that people fear to leave their shops and houses not only during the night time but in broad daylight also as the cases of burglary and robberies have been reported from all across the city. The people have raised voice against this development with certain political parties also demanding action against the unscrupulous elements.
Taking the cases of the last couple of days, robbers have looted 1.5 kilograms of gold from a jewellery store in Greater Kailash locality in broad daylight after they held hostage a woman owner of the shop. This reportedly was the first incident of such kind in the entire J&K because never in the past people have experienced such uncontrollable crime. This was not enough because a day after the misdemeanor by the dacoits, thieves have targeted a grocery shop in Shalamar Chowk area and decamped with cash and other valuables worth approximately Rs 50,000. Earlier, thieves struck two shops in Patoli area and decamped with different items worth around Rs 3-4 lakh.
The need of the hour is to take these cases of thefts and robbery very seriously because if cops will show complacency in the matter, there is a chance that the situation might further deteriorate with thieves and dacoits becoming more active in executing crime without any fear of law and law implementing agencies.
This is simply not an exaggeration that thieves and robbers are on prowl these days in Jammu as thefts have become a new norm with people feeling unsafe in day time also. Though the police in the region has improved its functioning to a large extent by adopting modern crime prevention strategies, one thing is sure that still Nakas and night patrolling are the best options available to curb the crime.
It is however imperative that people should also come forward and help police by remaining vigilant especially at their places of residence and business establishments besides going for burglar alarms and CCTV cameras as criminals are leaving no chance to commit crime without leaving evidence to track them down.
