Mehbooba slams Govt over transfer of ACB Official

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday condemned the transfer of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official, SSP Abdul Wahid, calling it a clear indication of a “nexus” between corrupt elements and those in power. The Jammu and Kashmir government recently ordered Wahid’s repatriation to the Home Department as part of a reshuffle within the ACB, raising concerns about the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.

Wahid, who was investigating corruption related to the Srinagar Smart City Project, had recently booked two senior officers in cases of disproportionate assets. Mufti argued that Wahid’s transfer underscores the risks faced by officials who challenge corruption and further exposes the powerful link between the corrupt and the influential.

In a post on social media platform X, Mufti remarked, “The removal of Abdul Wahid & his colleagues from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) highlights the risks faced by officials who challenge corruption. It exposes the nexus between the corrupt and the most powerful.” She accused the government of “punishing the whistleblower” and questioned its true intentions behind using anti-graft agencies like the ACB to raid properties under the pretext of corruption investigations.

Mufti’s statement raises further doubts about the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to upholding justice and accountability in the region.
