New Delhi, December 9: The Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is used for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, will undergo several changes in its 2025 edition. This follows a review by an expert panel constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), according to UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar.

The UGC set up the expert committee to review the conduct of CUET-UG (Undergraduate) and CUET-PG (Postgraduate) exams, with the goal of improving the overall examination process. Kumar stated, “Based on feedback from past years, it is essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient, and conducive environment for students taking CUET.”

The committee reviewed various aspects of the exam, including its structure, the number of papers, test duration, syllabus alignment, and operational logistics. The recommendations from this review were discussed during a recent UGC meeting.

Kumar added that the UGC will soon release a draft proposal outlining the revised guidelines for CUET-UG and CUET-PG 2025. The commission will invite feedback and suggestions from students, parents, teachers, and institutions.

The first edition of CUET-UG in 2022 faced significant challenges, including technical glitches. In addition, the exam had to be conducted in multiple shifts, which led to the need for score normalization. In 2024, CUET was conducted in a hybrid mode, but it faced further setbacks, including the cancellation of the exam in Delhi a night before it was set to be held due to logistical reasons.

With the upcoming changes for 2025, the UGC aims to address these issues and ensure a smoother and more efficient process for all stakeholders involved.
