Jammu Tawi: The National Statistics Office (NSO), Regional Office Jammu on Wednesday organized an one-day camp for the self-compilation of returns related to the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2023-24. The camp was hosted at the (BBIA) Industrial Area in Bari Brahmana, aiming to educate and sensitize business associations about the importance and process of self-compiling statistical returns.
The session included hand-holding training led by Senior Statistical Officers, who provided comprehensive guidance to representatives of industrial units in Bari Brahmana. The event commenced with a welcome address by R. K. Sharma, Assistant Director, followed by the inaugural speech delivered by P. Palanivel, Deputy Director General, NSO (Field Operations Division), UT of J&K.
In his address, Palanivel outlined the objectives, scope, and coverage of the ASI, emphasizing the survey’s long-standing history since its inception in 1960 under the Collection of Statistics Act, 1953. He highlighted that the ASI is currently conducted under the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, amended in 2017 and regulated by rules established in 2011. The DDG stressed that the ASI aims to collect detailed data to evaluate the contribution of the Registered Manufacturing Sector to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Approximately 20 representatives from various industrial units in District Samba, a region known for its high concentration of industrial activity, participated in the conference. The training was further supported by senior statistical officers from the Regional Office Jammu, who are actively involved in the fieldwork of the ASI. The overall coordination of the camp was managed by Rajesh Kumar, NSO (FOD), RO Jammu, with training provided by other senior officers.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Swaran Lal, Assistant Director, NSO, Jammu, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the success of the camp.
