    Natrang presents two shows of ‘Bawa Jitto’ in Jhiri Mela

    Jammu Tawi: Natrang Jammu presented two shows of the globally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ at Jhiri Mela 2024. The play, written by Late Prof. Ram Nath Shastri, was innovatively devised, designed, and creatively directed by Padamshree Balwant Thakur. The Chief Guest, Principal Secretary to Government, Education (School) and Culture UT of J&K, appreciated the efforts of Natrang Jammu and its Director Balwant Thakur to preserve and promote the cultural wisdom and wealth of Jammu & Kashmir. The play transported thousands of devotees and pilgrims to a 15th-century saga of supreme sacrifice of a farmer who gave his life in the fight against injustice and exploitation by landlords. Director Balwant Thakur expressed his gratitude to the District Administration, particularly Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar, and Athar Amin Zargar, SDM Marh, for supporting Natrang in making this possible. Natrang has staged over two hundred shows of the play Bawa Jitto all-over India, making it the longest living theatre production of the country and giving a new cultural identity to the region. The story of Bawa Jitto portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. The role of Bawa Jitto was played by Arvind Anand who kept everyone spellbound through his electrifying performance.
